There are reports of very stormy weather in Stoupa - any photos or comments from people there now ?

It was pretty rough on the day we left which was the day it was all due to hit.....Chrani, Finikounda side got it worse than Stoupa...we were at Halikoura which was a bit scary from 6am onwards, large sea swell....15ft or so hitting the natural break by the old Aktiron taverna....was glad to leave.....only to then endure a 14hr delay......Our easyjet flight could not land, attmepted it 3- or 4 times only to give up and go to Athens....the Oslo and Paris flights landed tho....eventually at 5pm we got on a coach to Athens....given no info but joined and easyjet queue to apparently check in for the 23.40 flight.....we arrived at 8.30pm....Loooong day.........got on the flight to be told we were being delayed another hour....joy.....should havde landed at gatwick at 13.45 on the Saturday...finally landed at 2am Sunday morning.....shattered and witha compo claim denied by Easyjet.....

Oh dear Mel, sorry to hear you had such a terrible journey home. We were in Stoupa from the 9th until the 23rd, so managed to avoid any bad weather this time. Keep putting the pressure on Easyjet, it doesn't seem fair if you can't get any compensation after being messed about like that.

On the subject of 'the other side', does anyone know if there was storm damage in Finikounda or, worse still, was anyone hurt? I can't find anything about it online.....

Oh dear Mel, not a great end to your holiday 😕. Not sure about the compensation bit though as bad weather is beyond Easyjet’s control but they should have provided food and drink during the delays as I understand it. Good article here -

I was in Chrani on the day of the storm which was quite an experience. Some people living locally were without power for a couple of days after that. I am not aware of any significant storm damage along that coast. The beach in Chrani has been steadily eroded over the last 15 years so it didn`t help that! And of course the sea was churned up for days afterwards. It was described as the worst storm ever seen by UK nationals who live in the area. Kalamata port area was affected too.

Sorry about your experience Mel. The storm started to calm down about 5pm so it was a shame they could not get the plane from Athens to Kalamata then.

Thanks for your report Alison, we were so pleased to hear that there was no significant damage on the other side. It must have been quite an eye opener for you seeing such extreme weather though. I have since found a few You Tube videos taken in Finikounda on September 29th, which are interesting, to say the least!

Let's hope the weather in the area will be more benign over this year's winter months. The locals need their beaches to stay put for future use!
