WARNING - fine forparking on the sea front

Post by Marco » Fri Jun 01, 2018 9:25 pm

We have been in Stoupa for just over a week, having hired a car for the last 5 days, we have parked on the sea front daily to get a coffee or lunch and have seen the police pass a few times. Today when we returned to our car we have a parking ticket issued by the police and 40E fine. It would appear from talking to one of the local business owners that from June the 1st parking is banned on the sea front. I totally understand the reason for this, but there are no signs to advise, no warnings! The only visible sign advises no parking from 20.00hrs to 02.00hrs

How is anyone supposed to be aware?

This is a great way to alienate travellers to the area, and 40E we wont be spending with a local business.

PLAY FAIR, PUT UP WARNING SIGNS PRIOR TO ISSUING FINES.

From one very annoyed tourist.

8-) It may be that if you pay within 10 days, the fine is halved.
Reality is an illusion caused by alcohol deficiency. 8-)

Thanks for the warning, better remember not to park there in future. This is Greece, however, and such things as "No Parking" signs etc., should not be expected. Should do as the locals do, not pay the fine.

There is also now clearway signs on the main road outside Katarinas, i can see the potential for further fines for cars parking on the roadside.

Sounds like parking meters or a "pay for" car park will be arriving soon. All those roads not earning any income must be tempting. I mean which village/ town centre can you go in England where there is free parking?

I've often thought that towns and villages, offering free parking, would have a significant commercial advantage over those not, is Accrington a thriving town centre or has everyone gone to Stoupa?
