Just read this on the Parea sti Mani site http://www.parea-sti-mani.com/newsstory ... glish&lp=1
Very bad news for those without transport. Part of the government's cost cutting exercise, I suppose.

Told in my travels today that Ag Nik post office closed for good last Friday.

Further, Kardamili PO opens at 1pm at moment and takes about 1 hour to reach head of queue - is this true?

I just contacted my mother who will go tomorrow to the post office(s) and ask for the news.

Ag Nik PO didn't open on Friday, no reason posted on the door. Kardamyli was open and staffed by Dimitris who has been running Ag Nik.

Now the Post Office in Ag Nik is closing will the local shops still be selling stamps for the tourist postcards etc, also will the Ag Nik postbox be emptied as usual?

Of course the post boxes will be emptied, the same as those in Stoupa etc.

What is of more importance is where us locals will get our incoming post. The march of the blue post boxes has not yet reached Ag Nik, and it is about time they did. Last year we were told that post could not be left "on the counter" for anyone to peruse, and we paid to have a space on the shelves at the back.

The cut backs don't really make sense, as only the shop will shut, and the staff retained (thank goodness), to continue the postal service out of Kardamyli. Kambos has already closed (our new Mayor used the vacant premises as his election HQ ! ), so their post is now coming from Kalamata presumably.

Ag Nik has the telephone exchange, a coastguard station, but soon no Post Office. SAD.
