Mass Killing of young birds

Post by Nelson » Sat Jun 01, 2013 7:16 pm

A group of tourist came across the mass destruction of many bird nests with young inside, with buckets of dead & dying chicks, while members of staff washed the road down, on Thursday around lunch time, where the road through Ag Nik narrows.
The distraught tourists reported this to the Police, and were told that this was ILLEGAL. They also reported it to the Mayor at the Town Hall in Kardamili, and made Gaia aware.
Many tourist saying they would not want to return to Ag Nik with this sort of thing happening,
A Tourist known as Andrew left a letter for the owner as she was not available when he called to tell her how the group felt about this evil act. !
One more week and the chicks would have flown the nests, This the time to destroy them, when they are empty........no need for mass MURDER.

You should not be surprised by the Greek attitude to animals. There have been many instances reported on this site and on Parea Sti Mani ( http://www.parea-sti-mani.com )of dogs being shot, cats poisoned etc. and nothing official gets done. At last, an animal welfare organisation has been set up here but it is still in its infancy, so maybe things will start to change.

Yesterday, outside the bakers in Stoupa there was a kitten wandering about. Its eyes were barely open so it was recently born. I moved it from the roadside and down the steps to below the bakery.

Domestic animal welfare here is in the dark ages and will remain so until children are educated and the older generation die off. Lots of younger people now have dogs as pets and are looking after them well, which is why Kostas the vet has established a practice here. Lovely Doberman outside Katerinas this morning.
