We last visited Agios Nikolaos at the time of the Sardine Festival in July 2011. Last Friday we were fortunate enough to be in the village again when the Festival was held. There was a band of Greek musicians performing until the the early hours, the local community enthusiastically taking part in the dancing. The local fishermen cooking industrial quantities of sardines and giving them away free to the crowds. And later in the evening displays of flares and fireworks, all of this watched by well over 1000 locals and tourists.
The whole event is organised and funded by the local fishermen and community and it is a credit too them in these troubled times that they delivered such a great evening and it was fantastic to see the area around the harbour turned into an arena crammed with people enjoying the fun. Many thanks for an evening to remember.
Agios is definitely worth to have its own forum - here we go.
