Greek Mobil phone

Post by cav-gas » Fri Jul 20, 2018 7:58 am

We have a pay as you go cosmote mobile phone which when topped up, only lasts for 2 months. As we go back to the UK for the winter, every spring we have to get a new sim and tel number. Does anyone know if there is a service provider that has a 6 month or more deal so we can keep the same number.

If it is of any interest to you, if you want to stick with Cosmote, it is possible to do online top ups from anywhere in the world https://www.cosmote.gr/cs/cosmote/en/to ... karta.html You can put a small amount in every two months to keep the account alive.

I'm interested in the reasons for needing a 'greek' mobile now? I thought UK mobiles were now able to be used at the same tariffs as at home? I have a Three PAYG phone which is on the 321 tariff (3p/minute 2p/text 1p/mb data) and exactly the same charges apply in Greece. Receiving calls is now free also. Maybe it's not the same for all providers/tariffs?

You may find you need a Greek mobile if you have a Greek bank account and also if you need to report a landline out of order. NBG will only send the PIN to a Greek mobile and steadfastly refuse to text to a UK mobile.

Alpha bank were originally happy to take our UK phone number, when I tried to update to a new number on line, it will not accept the uk number.

Another reason for a Greek mobile, to get your Ikea discount code https://www.ikea.gr/en/family/ !
