Split between the two folks - can you help?
Looking for good food, nice, child-friendly beach and laid-back environment.
All replies and advice welcome - thanks in advance for your help.
Chris

Thanks Zorbas -
As you may have seen, I've opted for Chrani.
I love Greece and I've not visited this area before so I'm really looking forward to my holiday.
I thought that maybe I can visit Stoupa and Finikounda if I get around to hiring a car ...
Thanks for your reply.
Chris

While we were in Stoupa we hired a car purposely to visit Finikounda and Chrani. Finikounda was lovely, spread out along a beautiful bay. Very picturesque. Chrani was my favourite out of the two, but it would be a total retreat. not much to do but soak up the sun and drink in the landscape total bliss (if you like that kind of thing). The only trouble was we went there to pick which we like best for next year and choose stoupa again! If I had not been to stoupa, Chrani would be my choice.

Hi Seej. Hope you like quiet because thats what you will get. For us it was great 50 steps from studio to the nearest taverna ( the garden) the one by the jewellers that was always shut thank god ( my wife likes rings, and earrings, and rings, and rings) Socrates was our favorite taverna but watch out for the aussie waiter, you wont realise he's Aussi cos he speaks to you in Greek especially if you know a bit, then he throws in a few words you might not know and waits for the puzzled look before saying in perfect Aussie ( come on you guys should now that ) The supermarket by the garden has everything you should need and isn't too expensive and they are really nice people. Up on the main road is a taverna who's name escapes me but its right by a real estate office and car hire place ( taverna is good and the car hire is too with new Micra's at reasonable price.) If you go left here along the main road IE taverna/real estate etc on your right then the first taverna you come to along that road is brilliant but it does get quite busy. On the beach if you go left you come to a beach bar some way along WATCH out it's very dear. One thing you wont do in Chrani is get lost. Enjoy yourself we did. Rodders.

Cheers Rodders and Katrina B -
I tell you what - quiet sounds great right now as I'm sitting on the edge of a nightmare deadline!
But I'm sure that after a a few days I'll be hopping in that hire car with my girls and travelling the Peloponnese.
I've received a very good car tour and walking book this morning to help me do this.
I'll watch out for that Aussie too.
I love Greece and can't wait.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Folks -
Just though I'd let you know that we had a fabulous time in Chrani (or Hrani as I now know it).
It's very quiet but with five good restaurants and a couple of bars we were happy.
Rodders was right about the Socrates, great service and great food, the Garden proved a hit too, lovely environment.
We noticed just how much cheaper it was to eat in the area compared to our last few Greek hols (Pelion/Naxos/Parga).
We did choose to hire a car for five days or our two weeks, which enabled us to visit Finikounda, Pylos, Methoni, Hora, Keroni amongst other towns, all of of which were worth the visit.
We also made it to Voidokilia beach twice which is now in my top ten beaches list, despite the dirt track...
The village proved a great base to travel from, and though Chrani town beach lacked the slew of beach-front restaurants and bars found in other Greek resorts, by the end of the holiday I was glad of it and felt more relaxed than I had for a long while.
Thanks for your help.

Hi Seej
Glad you enjoyed Chrani (Hrani or Xrani). I know some people have found the place too quiet but it is a good base for touring. I agree with you about Voidokilia beach, was the wrecked boat still there? Great for snorkelling near as it attracted all the fishes.

Hi Maria -
No wreck there that I could see - there were however, some amazing waves on our first visit.
The water between the two headlands was just boiling up, it was quite a sight, and great fun!
The one thing Chrani does lack is a focal point. There's no 'centre' as such, it's a small criticism really, but it's nice to sit and have a coffee and people watch around a square for instance.
I heard that the people at Chrani had turned down some kind of grant to develop the area, presumably with tourism in mind - not sure how true that is?
We wished we'd spent some more time in Keroni, as we found it quite a nice balance of town and tourism.
Roll on next year - we are meaned to be heading to France - but I know we'll get Greek-withdrawal-symptoms come June at the least!
